13 Baby Essentials That May Be Hard to Find When You Arrive

I have found that many baby items are regularly available at grocery stores and pharmacies many places in the world, developing countries included.  However, some items can be very expensive (like baby food), and it can also be difficult to find specialty items such as allergen-free food products and formula, organic products, and baby-safe products for sun and bugs.  I have had a very hard time finding any mosquito-repellent, let alone baby-safe repellent, or mosquito nets in malaria hot zones!

Below is a list of things that are difficult to find that you may want to consider packing with you in your checked or carry-on bag, depending on your flexibility with your products and where you are going:

  • Dairy-free formula
  • Dairy-free baby cereal
  • Organic baby food
  • Healthy, organic baby and kids’ snacks
  • Baby-safe sunscreen
  • Baby-safe bug repellent
  • Teething relief (regular and homeopathic)
  • Teething biscuits
  • Teething toys
  • Baby fever reducer/ pain relief
  • Homeopathic gas relief / gripe water
  • BPA-free plastic products (such as bottles, pacifiers, dishes)
  • Breast pump products, parts, and accessories
